Clear lacquer - how to apply it and when you need it

You do not need a body shop to take out a scratch and bring the shine back.

Clear lacquer lets you improve the surface quickly, on your own and without special tools.

What is clear lacquer and what is it for?

Clear lacquer is the final layer in a car's paint build-up.

It gives the gloss, evens out the surface and protects the repaired area.

It is mainly used for:

• touching in paint

• small scratches in the paintwork

• finishing off paint repairs

When should you use clear lacquer?

Use clear lacquer whenever:

• you have touched in a paint chip

• the base coat needs protecting

• you want the gloss back

It is the last step, and it visibly decides the final result.

How do you apply clear lacquer properly?

For the best result:

1. Prepare the surface

The area must be clean, dry and free of grease.

2. Apply the lacquer

Put a thin layer over the repaired area.

3. Spread it evenly

The lacquer should form an even surface.

4. Let it dry

For the best finish, let it cure fully.

Tip: several thin coats beat one thick one.
